What prompted Kelly to change

A monumental moment for Kelly was when she had gotten to a very low point in her eating disorder, and she realized that it was now or never to make a change for the better in her life.

Because I didn’t have the mindset skills, [or] the emotional regulation skills to really help me monitor and manage my stress levels, that ended up for me … I used food and eating to check out, escape, and numb out from what I was feeling, right? And like many of our friends here, I’m a highly sensitive person … You feel a lot.

After college, Kelly got a job in a software company.

She was working on a big project, and one day, when she was driving home, she felt such a strong pull to stop at the store and get comfort foods, that she ended up having so much one night that she forced herself to purge until she couldn’t anymore.

 I find myself that night crying on my cold white-tiled floor, and scared, and what was different that night was that I knew that I had gone too far because my heart was racing, and I knew enough about health that [it] meant my electrolytes were imbalanced … which affected your cardiovascular system, and I had a dear friend from college whose mom had died because of an eating disorder were her organs failed … It was a wake up call for me. It was really the first time I really understood the impact of my choices and my actions.

Kelly knew that at this moment, she had a decision to make; keep doing this pattern and slowly kill herself, or make a change and do something different. She chose the path of healing, which set her off on a long adventure that has healed her today.

The One Thought Away process

The One Thought Away process has five steps;

1 – Mindset: what you think impacts your feelings, what you feel impacts the actions that you take, and the consistent actions that you take become your habits, and these directly impact the results that you will have in your life

The mindset piece is also so important because … when a healthy mindset isn’t locked in, then what happens is we go down the rabbit hole so easily when we go back to the old thought, the old results.

2 – Emotional mastery: how are you in relation to your emotions? Are you able to process your emotions so that they don’t completely throw you off course?

Create a relationship with your emotions [so] that they’re messengers that hold data for you [to] help you understand if you are on or off track from where you want to take your life.

3 – Your relationship to yourself: do you adore, appreciate, and respect yourself? How do you talk to yourself through problems or celebrations? Do you show and give love to yourself?

4 – Become and stay present: work to minimize numbing yourself out during stressful situations and stay present during your day

5 – Sustain the transformation: find people who you can grow and develop alongside so that these changes become ingrained in your life, and help you to elevate your life patterns so that you are living the life you want to be living!

How women can use their intuition to transform

Kelly’s advice is to;

  • Get quiet
  • Be in solitude
  • Open up your breath and your heart
  • Listen to what comes up for you intuitively

Ask yourself; “What is the number one breakthrough I would love to create this year? … Or in the next six months?” And when we go quiet like that, there’s a lot of information that we can get that we oftentimes don’t hear or we don’t get because we live in a busy world where there is a lot coming at us all the time.

Kelly Tepedino

You have access to your answers when you get quiet, and they are important because they are YOUR answers – not the ones that you get fed by society or other people’s expectations of you.

With this clarity, then you can start to get creative and start to explore how you can take your life to the next level in a way that is authentic and genuine to you.

Additionally, you can then align yourself with other people who share your goals or your aims in life so that you can transform together.

And asking for support is not a sign of weakness, asking for support is a sign of strength. I think some women have been conditioned to think that they should be super women, super moms, super CEO, super house manager … and that asking for support is not allowed … But what often happens when you do life that way is you get burned out or exhausted and isolated, and it’s a hard way to live.
