The challenges of being a digital nomad

For Kristi, one of the challenges that she faces as a digital nomad is the aspect of having to organize traveling protocols and solve common problems while still managing daily work deadlines.

You also need to be aware of the legalities around travel if you are working a digital nomad lifestyle abroad, and be up-to-date with the current regulations on passport and visa requirements for the countries that you are passing through.

Do you want to stay somewhere for a month or do you want to stay somewhere for a week? Then you have to figure out; “What am I going to do in those places, where am I going to stay?” So it’s a lot of logistical things that are challenging.

During the travel process itself, there can be disruptions that come up which can delay the whole process, so you’ll need to develop a proactive and flexible mindset and approach to dealing with sudden hiccups.

Loneliness can also be an issue since you are moving around often, which can make it difficult to build a regular group of friends or loved ones to spend time with.

Find community on the road

Kristi has developed a great Facebook community, where other digital nomads or traveling introverts can keep in contact while traveling and can even plan to meet somewhere.

You can find camaraderie on the road, you just need to know where to look for it. Go to places where you would like to go, and you can often find some potential friends and fellow nomads.

Spotting the introverts on travels

It’s easy to spot the extroverts since they’re often striking up conversations and love to talk about where they’ve been and where they’re going.

It’s the introverts that can be tougher to spot!

As far as introverts [go], they’re out there … But I think they do their own thing!

Go to the places where you like to recharge and be still, and you may easily find a few fellow introverts around you

Kristi’s advice to listeners

Travel is possible! You just need the right mindset, and you’ll find your way. Do some planning and be financially prepared, but travel is possible, and you can make it your own!
