Noticing the need for a change
After about a year of doing virtual assistant work, Austin and Monica realized that they had fallen into a routine that they wanted to change.
They were glad to enjoy the location freedom that comes with being remote, but they wanted to experience time freedom too.
After some years of helping people grow their businesses, Austin and Monica decided to redirect their focus to launch their own business so that they would pursue creative projects, and do the type of work that resonated the most with them.
Get focused on your reason
Figure out your “why”. Why do you want to travel? Why do you want to be a digital nomad? Why do you want to start a business?
This “why” will help you to keep working through the hurdles that will come up in your way. These reasons will give you strength and serve as guideposts and reminders.
Of course, there will also be great rewards, despite the challenges. You can earn your money yourself, travel the world, and move as you like.
Embrace that freedom, and if you feel that this type of lifestyle is calling to you, then try it!
Some challenges to be prepared for
- Time zones differences
- Maintaining friendships at home and abroad in other countries
- Dealing with some occasional loneliness
- Being intentional with meeting new people and making friendships work
- Getting clear on your boundaries – with yourself and with others
Make time to connect with where you are
Traveling the world and seeing new places won’t have much of an impact on you if you stick to always doing the same thing and not learning about new ways of life, no?
If you are exploring new countries – especially those with different cultures, languages, and ways of life to your home country – then take a back seat for a while!
Be a respectful and curious observer, and open yourself up to being taught something new.
Speak with the locals, learn some of the language, take a class or a course, and be involved. That type of personal development will enrich your life beyond only that of a successful business.
How do you want your life to be? What can you do to make this one step closer to being real for you?
